History of GEOPS-Box company

GEOPS-Box manufactures and supplies metal boxes for geological core since 2000 ,as part of the GEOPS Consortium with the main activity exploratory drilling for minerals.

In this Consortium, the activity of GEOPS was the production and delivery of boxes for geological core. In the initial period, we made wooden boxes for geological cores, which, however were heavy and bulky and did not last over time, collected a smaller amount of drilling cores, this made it necessary to look for other solutions for the production of the product.

Over time, we developed a suitable light and strong option namely a metal box made of galvanized sheet metal, which is smaller in volume and collects a larger amount of drill core creating all the samples, tools, fixtures to facilitate reaching of the modern look of our product. We have been making metal chests using this technology since 2005.

We have refined and modified the design depending on the type and size of the drill bit and individual wishes of different customers. In eighteen years, we have reached the modern seven designs of metal boxes for geological core, which we have registered in the patent office of the Republic of Bulgaria.

We have produced over 200,000 metal core boxes. These production quantities have helped refine the design for comfort and strength. Recent design changes include increasing the width and riveting of the top side board of the core box. With this change, it becomes more comfortable to grip and stable with greater weights of the geological core with a larger diameter and a mass of more than 50 kg.

These changes were made by the GEOPS company after contacts with various of our customers, who shared their problems related to the operation of our product in 2000-2022. In the Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria, we have registered the industrial design for seven types of metal boxes for drill bits with Registration Certificate No. 9238 dated 04.11.2022. All the different types of metal core box designs are offered by GEOPS today as an eco-friendly alternative to plastic core boxes which, apart from collecting a small amount of core, are environmentally unsustainable to operate and do not meet the current green industry Euro norms . Another ecological alternative to plastic drill core boxes that GEOPS offers are those made of wood. Although they are bulkier and heavier and take less core than metal ones, they are suitable for drilling for lead-zinc ores, where boxes made of galvanized sheet metal can theoretically compromise the purity of the samples. GEOPS company offers three types of drill core boxes made of high-quality softwood, designed for NQ, HQ, PQ drill cores. By using these two types of environmentally friendly materials, wood and metal, GEOPS strives to provide an environmentally friendly core storage solution to its customers.
